A Case Report¢¥ of Esophageal Carcinoma Followed by Lye Structure 11

Abstract
Authors performed autopsy on a 14 years-old male who had lye ingestion in his past history, at age of 3. Since then, he complained recurrent esophageal stricture and several attempts of dilatation for stricture were performed without successful effect. Fistula was developed between the esophagus and trachea, and consequently difficulty of swallowing was complained. On autopsy, solid protruding tumor was noted on the upper 2/3 of the esophageal mucosa, and the trachea and adjacent lymphnodes were affected with neoplastic tissue. Histological study revealed well differentiated squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus.
The conclusion is that there is little evidence to support the theory of chronic irritation as carcinogen, though we happen to see a case of carcinoma occurred in the esophagus of a young boy followed by lye ingestion and longstanding irritation.
